  Job Description

The client Oncology Disease Area is seeking a highly motivated, creative, and collaborative scientist to join the Biological Chemistry (BC) group in a hands-on role to discover the next generation of innovative cancer treatments.

  • We are an early stage drug discovery team focused on understanding and exploiting the molecular mechanisms of novel cancer targets for the discovery, characterization and optimization of small molecule therapeutics.
  • The ideal candidate for this position will have a breadth of experience in developing biochemical and biophysical assays, profiling small molecules against protein targets, and collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams.
  • This position will require excellent technical ability at the bench, an eagerness to learn new things, and the willingness to tackle challenging scientific questions.

Your key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design, develop, and troubleshoot biochemical/biophysical assays using various detection technologies to identify and characterize small molecule modulators of cancer targets
  • Measure binding affinity, binding kinetics, and understand the mode of binding of ligands to proteins of interest
  • Contribute to medicinal chemistry drug discovery efforts to evaluate compound SAR and mode of action characterization
  • Communicate, collaborate and challenge assumptions to push scientific boundaries with a diverse team of cross-functional scientists

Desirable Requirements:

  • BA/BS or MS degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Enzymology or a related field with 5+ (BA/BS) or 2+ (MS) years of relevant laboratory research experience through employment, internships or co-operative study programs
  • Solid understanding of protein function and enzyme mechanism; experience with biochemical and/or biophysical assay development for protein target and small molecule inhibitor characterizations as well as protein-ligand binding interactions
  • Experience with fluorescence-based assay techniques (e.g. HTRF, FP, or quench assays) and label-free technologies (e.g. SPR, ITC, DSF, or mass spectrometry)
  • Hands-on experience with automation to enable medium to high throughput assays is a plus
  • Proven ability to analyze, interpret and present data in a clear and concise manner
  • Excellent team-player, with strong communication and inter-personal skills
