Research Associate II, Pathobiology in Foster City, CA

Summary:

• The In Vivo Pathology (IVP) team within the Pathobiology department is seeking a research associate to contribute to histology and pathology workflows in support of pre-clinical in vivo pharmacological studies.
• This position will support drug development in diverse therapeutic areas such as inflammation, oncology, and virology.
• The successful candidate will provide scientific and technical expertise for tissue-based histopathology that spans assay development, whole slide scanning, image QC, analysis, and data reporting.
• A successful candidate will enjoy working in a team; carefully follow scientific protocols and apply meticulous attention to detail.

Essential Duties and Job Functions:

• The main duties of this lab-based, on-site position include planning, development, and application of tissue-based procedures to include, automated Immunohistochemistry (IHC) and In-situ Hybridization (ISH) assays.
• Whole slide scanning of histology slides for pathologist review or quantitative image analysis.
• Manage sample tracking and communicate updates and instructions to downstream stakeholders.
• Work closely with pathologists to communicate project status, QC data, and generate reports.
• Compile quantitative image analysis data and prepare standardized pathology reports.
• Maintain standardization of histology sample collection, processing, storage, and analysis.
• Coordinate with external partners to ensure all related work and data generation is in alignment with internal methods and standards.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

• 2+ years of histology lab or related experience
• Complete working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Ability to interpret, communicate, and present scientific data
• Highly motivated with a “can do” attitude and commitment to work as part of a team

The following are highly preferred, but not required:

• Digital pathology experience, including image analysis and database software (i.e. VisioPharm, HALO, ImageJ, Proscia)
• Experience with statistical analysis software (i.e PRISM GraphPad, Spotfire)
• Basic histology procedures, including fixed tissue processing, embedding, and microtomy
