Position Responsibilities:

In the role as a Senior Scientist within the Systems Neuroscience group, the ideal candidate will:

  • Be onsite and predominantly laboratory based developing tripleQuad mass spectrometry (MS) based novel fluid and tissue-based biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Troubleshoot basic tripleQuad MS instrument and biological sample preparation related issues.
  • Develop assays to implement in industry standard good clinical and laboratory practices.
  • Be responsible for reading proteomics databases generated on HRMS (including Orbitrap and TOF) for qualitative analysis of biological matrices and identify novel biomarkers, which can be developed as a targeted novel biomarker assays capable to quantify.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and also in a collaborative environment with minimal guidance in designing experiments to develop quantitative assays for novel biomarkers.
  • Assist in the design, writing and IRB-approvals of observational and experimental human studies designed to test LC/MS-MS-based hypotheses that supports the identification/validation of next generation biomarker candidates that will be critical for success of early-stage clinical project teams.
  • Aid in developing relevant scope of work and contracts to support the above efforts.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations summarizing the work within Client sub-team meetings and externally as requested by the Systems Neuroscience Team.
  • Publish in scientific journals and present in scientific meetings as aligned with the Systems Neuroscience objectives.

 

Experience:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, 7+ years of academic and / or industry experience Or Master’s Degree, 5+ years of academic and / or industry experience Or Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences, 2+ of academic and / or industry experience

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD and 2+ years of relevant industry experience in drug discovery and development.
  • Hands-on experience on High-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) instruments is a plus.
  • Experience running and interpreting spectra focused on deciphering novel analytes in the context of neurodegenerative disorders.
  • Demonstrated track record of accountability
  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills
  • 1st, 2nd or last author on a sufficient number of LCMSMS publications in the neurodegeneration field to be considered an expert
  • Successful track record of obtaining research grants
  • Ability to work well within a dynamic matrixed team environment
