1-2 years of experience required; Individual that is organized, capable of adapting to different projects, willing to learn and take the initiative; Bachelor in Molecular Biology; General Biology degree is acceptable; Required experience in labwork, histology background (plus); tissue; ICH (plus)

Duties:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly organized pathology laboratory technician (on site position) to support the following clinical chemistry (25%) and histology (75%) activities:

Clinical chemistry:

  • Preparation of samples for serology and clinical chemistry analysis
  • Operate, calibrate, run and maintain laboratory instruments, Alfa Wasserman Vet Axcel chemistry analyzer, iSmart 30 Vet (Woodley) and other related equipment. Prior experience with coagulation, urinalysis (including microscopic) and clinical chemistry analysis is a plus.
  • Develop, standardize, evaluate, and modify standard operating procedures, techniques and tests used in the analysis of specimens.
  • Oversee quality assurance programs, including proficiency testing, to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results. Operate, calibrate and maintain equipment.
  • Oversee inventory management/ordering for clinical chemistry equipment, maintenance schedules.
  • Be the primary contact to equipment manufacturers for technical bulletins and updates.
  • Communicate with internal and external collaborators to manage prioritization, timelines, and prepare Excel data reports to share with stakeholders.

Histology:

  • Support and perform daily routine histology laboratory activities, including tissue trimming, processing, embedding.
  • Assist with receiving samples from investigators and registering them into the laboratory information system, as well as with outsourcing.
  • May assist with necropsy procedures including dissection of organ systems and preparation for rodent necropsies.
  • Responsible for thoroughly cleaning necropsy station (sink, tabletops, instruments, jars/containers etc…) and stocking necropsy supplies.
  • Dispose of formalin-fixed animal carcasses and non-needed tissues, handle formalin containers and associated waste disposal.
  • Create Excel datasheets to support whole slide digital imaging archiving.
  • Maintain FFPE tissue inventory and organize frozen specimens.
