  Job Description

Plant is a Chocolate and confectionary ingredient (white chocolate and confectionery ingredient manufacturing plant)

 

5 day shift: (7:00 Am - 3:30 PM or 6 AM - 2:30 Pm) or 4 days’ work 6 AM - 4:30 PM (Must discuss at the time of interview regarding shift timings)

 

Masters degree will work

Position Summary and Description
  • The Production Quality Technician is responsible for completion of analytical and microbiological testing in support of the local Food Safety Quality and Operational teams. Testing may be performed on in-process and final products.
  • The role is also responsible for basic instrumentation troubleshooting and maintenance, and the use of these technologies to support of trials and experiments.
  • The Quality Technician is responsible for checking and monitoring instrumentation performance and routine calibration checks.
  • The Quality Technician is responsible for entering data into databases and communication of results to stakeholders verbally and in writing.

 

Principle Accountabilities –the main responsibilities of the role and expected time commitment for each responsibility  

  • Responsible for acquiring samples from the production floor and conducting routine quantitative and qualitative inspections on raw material, in-process, and final products, involving instrumentation analysis and maintenance of technologies including Viscometers, Colorimeters, pNMR, Mettler Drop Point, HPLC, GC, Karl Fischer titrators, analytical balances, moisture balances, water activity meters, and hand-held micrometers in support of daily operations. 75%
  • Supports trials of both independently and cooperatively designed experiments based on the generation of data using the aforementioned technologies while under the supervision of more senior team members 
  • Enters data into SAP, Access, and other databases, as well as communicates results verbally or written as required
  • Communicates product test results to internal customers and the release of product meeting prescribed guidelines Determines product standardization decisions based on data 15% 
  • Performs calibration, calibration checks, preventative maintenance tasks, and simple repair to analytical instrumentation with technologies including: Viscometers, Colorimeters, pNMR, Mettler Drop Point, HPLC, GC, Karl Fischer titrators, analytical balances, moisture balances, water activity meters, and hand-held micrometers. 10% 
  • Performs miscellaneous job duties as assigned such as; participation in internal audits, additional sampling and testing as requested, maintaining the food safety management system, solution preparation, sensory preparation, inventory management for lab supplies, and cleaning of lab areas.

  • Ability to read site level SOPs and execute tasks according to these SOPs
  • Understanding of plant, laboratory, and chemical safety procedures
  • Understanding of product sampling procedures both aseptically and for routine analysis
  • Understanding of product testing procedures for technologies including Viscometers, Colorimeters, pNMR, Mettler Drop Point, HPLC, GC, Karl Fischer titrators, analytical balances, moisture balances, water activity meters, and hand-held micrometers
  • Understanding of environmental monitoring program and sampling procedure
  • Ability to use SAP as it pertains to quality management transaction codes
  • Ability to use generated data to make informed decision with respect to supporting operations, standardizing tanks, or adjusting the manufacturing process

Education

  • Required – Associates Degree in a Science related field or a High School Diploma/GED with minimum 1 year of relevant work experience
  • Preferred – Associates Degree in a Science field with an understanding of basic science and analytical techniques

 

EHS Considerations – potential health exposure (e.g. allergens, heat), lifting requirements, standing requirements, etc.

  • The Quality Technician is expected to be in the production areas of the plant, as needed.
  • In the production area, the specialist will be exposed to temperature and humidity conditions that range from 65o – 120oF, with humidity levels near or over 80% to levels, of less than 40%. Outdoor work may be required and is subject to extreme hot or cold weather.
  • Manufacturing processes are highly reliant on machines that produce noise levels that may reach up to 115 decibels requiring the use of hearing protection.
  • Additionally, the production area can present industrial hazards in some plant areas including processing equipment, forklifts, etc. which require the use of specific PPE.
  • This person should be able to lift 50 lbs., stand for extended periods of time, and climb stairs as needed for the safe performance of his/her job and in accordance with company and site-specific policy.
  • Plants have milk and soy allergens on site and in processing areas. 
  • Position is expected to support the production activities and must be available on off-shifts, weekends, and holidays and may require travel.
