  • We provide faster and more informed learnings on prototype builds ranging from a dozen to several hundred, and maintain that prototype hardware for internal use.
  • It is important that we provide experience from past builds across all product lines to inform future designs for existing and emerging products and technologies.

Compelling Story & Candidate Value Proposition:

  • As a Mechanical Assembly Engineer, you would act as a liaison between our team and the cross functional partners for whom we build, repair, and modify prototypes.
  • You will have expansive Client collaborations within our PDE, HW Engineering, Rapid Prototyping, and Research & Development teams.
  • Our projects cover a wide array of technical engineering challenges unique to Client vast portfolio of AR, MR, and future products.
  • In this role you will collaborate closely with engineering partners to influence assembly methods and processes, and implement creative solutions when problems arise during a prototype build.
  • You must be able to work independently, while also seeking guidance and feedback from peers and end users. Improving both workflow and communication efficiency should be the driving motivation behind all the work you take on.

Typical Day in the Role:

  • We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Prototype Assembly Aid.
  • In this role, you will be responsible for building and repairing prototype devices, ranging from 5-100 units, in support of our engineering and technical teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Sunnyvale team of technicians to assemble prototype headsets on an assembly line
  • Augment the work of technicians by providing additional support and expertise in areas such as manual screening and fixture design
  • Meet with customer teams to understand project requirements and design assembly flows that meet their needs

  • You should be detail-orientated with robust communication skills and comfortable working in a highly visible and highly hands-on problem-solving environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate closely with multidisciplinary teams on developing assembly process flow based on review of design intent with an eye for best assembly practices and DFA/DFM
  • Ability to participate in the drafting, review and approval of project documents, user needs, and product objectives to support your ability to advise on and create build execution plans alongside engineering partners
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional partners to understand design intent, explain design risks, and suggest solutions or mitigation actions that balance cost, schedule, and project goals.
  • Able to translate design intent/KPIs to lead the development of electro-mechanical fixtures for assembly, alignment, and mechanical testing as needed.
  • Perform delicate rework of devices, writing SOPs for a team of technicians and aid in teaching and reviewing their work
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required for documentation and live discussion with Engineering teams.
  • Effectively employ 3D computer aided design (CAD), 2D sketching, and advanced prototyping techniques to clearly communicate complex design ideas.
  • Ability to execute multiple streams of work simultaneously and independently balance and prioritize project workload to ensure success against timeline constraints.
