Interim Fleet Management Consultant – Transformation Programme


Length: 6 months

Hours: Full Time or Part Time (at least 3 to 4 days per week)

  • We have done the initial work of coming together as a new council now we need to move to the next stage and realise the immense opportunities we now have.
  • We are ambitious in our aims to tackle climate change and with ever diminishing public sector resources we need to find solutions to deliver a modern and effective fleet services across the vast geography of Client.
  • We have started initial thinking about our plans but need an Interim Fleet Management Consultant for 6 months discrete project to objectively evaluate our position, to help us transform and to:
  • Engage with the fleet team, senior management and wider stakeholders to understand current challenges and opportunities within the fleet service, advising Assistant Director Environment of key points.
  • Advise and help inform a restructure of the fleet service
  • Day-to-day management of fleet team and workshop staff

Work with the team to:

  • Support O-License holder(s) and H&S/compliance of all drivers
  • An on-going vehicle replacement plan including budget
  • Develop a fleet decarbonisation plan
  • Support savings initiatives
  • Management of pool cars
  • Management of vehicle workshops
  • To deliver the requirements of the assignment you will have;
  • Significant operational experience of fleet management, with technical capability for assuring compliance and health and safety
  • Successful track record in delivering the transformation of fleet services
  • Credible senior leadership experience to develop strategic approaches with key stakeholders.

The role is based in Northallerton and this where key leadership and stakeholder meetings are held. There is a need for some visibility across the operations of Client and otherwise we work in a hybrid way including from home and or other office basis. In reality beyond initial induction to project where you have more to understand, you will work approx. 2 days in the office and the rest elsewhere.

  • We require the consultant to start as soon as possible and ideally by March and anticipate that the assignment will be for 6 months.
  • We are open to the assignment being worked on a full-time basis, or part-time but no less than 3-4 days per week.
  • This assignment is within IR35.
