Job Summary
 
The Mechanical TAR Planner is a key member of the Turnaround (TAR) Management Team, responsible for planning all assigned mechanical turnaround activities while also supporting secondary discipline planning. The role ensures that turnaround planning and execution align with site objectives, policies, and best practices. The candidate must possess strong field experience in general maintenance functions and be a self-starter capable of effectively coordinating turnaround efforts.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
Planning Phase:
  • Attend Core Team meetings as required.
  • Collaborate with Operations and other disciplines to ensure job plans adhere to site policies, procedures, guidelines, and technical rules for equipment repair, inspection, and replacement.
  • Analyze historical turnaround data to improve future planning efforts.
  • Assist in scope definition, with a focus on mechanical activities, including equipment inspections, repairs, and capital projects.
  • Recommend alternative scope approaches when advantageous.
  • Develop job plans in the planning tool as per lead planners, planning coordinators, and TAR manager guidelines.
  • Plan Capital Project Execution Phase activities for the TAR as directed by the TAR and Construction Managers.
  • Coordinate with secondary discipline planners (I&E, rotating equipment) to ensure a comprehensive and efficient plan.
  • Work with I&E, Electrical, and Operations Planners on scope development, isolations, permitting requirements, PPE, and other work planning elements.
  • Assist in infrastructure and facility planning by providing input to the Logistics Coordinator on long-lead material and service requirements.
  • Ensure contractors understand the content and expectations of mechanical work packages.
Execution Phase:
Serve as either an Execution Coordinator or Discovery Planner:
 
Execution Coordinator:
  • Interface with Execution Contractors to organize and manage daily work, ensuring safety and quality compliance.
  • Provide daily progress reports to the Turnaround Management Team.
  • Attend daily execution meetings and interpret scheduling data.
  • Oversee scheduling efforts and ensure deliverables are met.
  • Identify and document job plan deficiencies and areas for improvement.
  • Supply additional documentation to contractors as needed.
  • Maintain daily logs with findings and photographic documentation.
Discovery Planner:
  • Ensure discovery work and scope changes are incorporated into the schedule.
  • Plan additional work, including estimating, material procurement, and service contracting.
  • Document deficiencies and suggest improvements for future turnarounds.
Post Turnaround Phase:
  • Provide input for contractor evaluations.
  • Work with Execution Contractors to complete all post-TAR work.
  • Review and refine repetitive job plans to optimize efficiency.
  • Analyze turnaround processes and deliverables, documenting lessons learned and potential improvements.
  • Participate in Post-TAR critiques, offering insights on scheduling and process enhancements.
  • Archive all planning details, notes, photos, and related documentation for future reference.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Strong field experience in general maintenance functions.
  • Preferred: Experience leading mechanical crews.
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and proactive in gathering necessary information for effective planning.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment and piping drawings.
  • Familiarity with Primavera P6 schedules (basic knowledge of reading and interpreting schedules).
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in the following software: Excel, Outlook, Visio, Word, Adobe Acrobat
