  Job Description

The expected duration for now, would be approximately 4-5 months.  The expectation would be to come onsite in Newark, 2 days a week (Tues/Wed).

PARALEGAL I

Responsibilities:

  • Research, monitor, update, and maintain current knowledge of developments in federal and state legislation, rules, regulations, enforcement actions and industry guidelines affecting the health insurance industry.
  • Organize, maintain and update departmental files.
  • Prepare legal documents for review, approval, and use by attorneys, as requested
  • Analyze data and write reports as requested.
  • Provide administrative assistance as needed ranging from drafting letters, scheduling and preparing meetings, typing, expense reports, and projects as requested.
  • Perform factual investigation and research.
  • Litigation, Labor and Employment Specific Position Add the Following Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the intake, response, and coordination of the Company’s subpoenas.
  • Assist in obtaining, organizing, analyzing and providing documents and information related to litigation or investigation.
  • Case management, including financial management.
  • Negotiate resolution of matters pursuant to authorized authority.
  • Corporate/Regulatory Specific Position Add the Following Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and maintain documentation pertinent to the Company’s and its affiliates' certifications and licenses, including those related to the BlueCross BlueShield Association; ensures timely preparation and submission of all documents required to maintain such certifications and licenses.
  • Under the supervision of department attorneys prepare, review, proofread, compile, and summarize a variety of legal correspondence involving leases, licenses, purchases, sales, insurance, intellectual property, other regulatory filings and matters related to the normal functioning of the department or other ongoing administration of existing cases or orders.

Job Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Bachelor degree preferred or relevant experience in lieu of degree.
  • Requires a minimum of one (1) - three (3) years of paralegal experience.

Additional Licensing, Certifications, Registrations:

  • Paralegal certification from ABA accredited paralegal program.
  • Applicable work experience at a law firm or with a corporate in-house legal team in lieu of Paralegal certification will be considered.

Knowledge:

  • Experience in a highly regulated industry preferred.
  • Working knowledge of New Jersey litigation practice preferred.
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers and supporting software in a Windows based environment including MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Knowledgeable in the use of legal research software and databases.

  • Must be proactive and accountable.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
