2nd Shift (2:00 PM – 10:00 PM)

We are looking for a dependable Specimen Technician I (SPT I) to join our 2nd shift team. This role supports essential functions within the Specimen Processing Department and involves working in a production-focused environment with strict attention to accuracy, productivity, and quality standards.
The position is primarily responsible for specimen handling and preparation, data entry, and ensuring proper routing of samples to the appropriate labs. Tasks may include, but are not limited to, sorting, centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging/microfilming, and delivering specimens to the lab.
Candidates must be able to handle repetitive tasks efficiently while maintaining a high level of detail and accuracy in a fast-paced, high-volume setting. Flexibility is essential due to frequent changes in daily priorities and client-specific test requirements. The SPT I must also demonstrate professionalism and excellent communication when working with other departments and responding to client needs.
This is a critical role for maintaining quality and timely laboratory operations.
 
Key Responsibilities:

• Perform accurate data entry for laboratory specimen information
• Sort, prepare, and route samples to appropriate testing areas
• Handle specimens in compliance with safety and infection control standards
• Operate centrifuges and other lab-related equipment
• Maintain a clean and organized work area
• Respond to changing test and specimen requirements as needed
• Communicate with internal staff to resolve discrepancies or clarify orders
• Meet productivity and quality metrics in a deadline-driven environment
• Follow all safety, compliance, and confidentiality policies
• Maintain flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and overtime if needed
 
Must-Have Skills:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Basic computer proficiency and accurate data entry skills
• Ability to type 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour
• Comfortable working in a biohazard environment
• Able to sit or stand for extended periods
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Understanding of basic safety and compliance procedures
• Comfortable working in a production-based lab environment
 
Preferred (but not required):
• Previous experience in a laboratory or healthcare setting
• Familiarity with medical terminology
• Prior work in specimen processing or hospital labs
• Background in a production or data entry role
 
Soft Skills:

• Flexibility and willingness to adapt to daily changes
• Good communication skills with both peers and supervisors
• Dependable and able to follow instructions independently
