“A lot of innovation comes from how we think about treating one another and working with one another.” — Derek Wilson
In an interactive online session of “Chat with Nish” on November 18, 2020, Derek Wilson, Director of Global Strategy Lead at Johnson & Johnson, spoke about the whys and hows of advancing disability inclusion at the workplace.
Derek said the inclusion of diverse abilities brings a change in the organization. Incredible transparency leveraging technology to define needs and sponsorship in leadership are the two things every organization should focus on while embracing diversity and inclusion, according to him.
Derek suggested three goals to lead more sustainable and scalable global outcomes: advancing a culture of inclusion and innovation, building a diverse workforce, and enhancing business performance and reputation.
“Start small and plan big,” he said. “Organizations need to discover opportunities and launch training programs focused on individuals with disabilities.”
Derek also emphasized the importance of collaboration with external partners and suppliers. He said he considers them a differentiating source of innovation.
“Be transparent and upfront with your objectives. Recognize responsibility and look forward to the opportunity to embrace diversity and inclusion,” Derek said.
“To advance a culture of inclusion, everyone has to take part in building a diverse workforce for the future. Each member of the team is accountable,” he added.About Derek Wilson:
