Silver Linings in the COVID Era

08/19/2020

Chat with Nish is a series hosted by Nish Parikh, CEO, Co-Founder and Chief Empathy Advocate at Rangam.

“Opportunities must reflect diversity.” — Dave Kearon

Speaking to Nish Parikh of Rangam on August 19, 2020, Dave Kearon, Director of Adult Services at Autism Speaks, shared his thoughts on the importance of autism awareness, acceptance, and understanding.

“From awareness to action, we have to work in every aspect to embrace autism. Autism touches every type of diversity,” Dave said. He said people with autism are integral members of their workplaces, homes, and communities. “The pandemic has reset the world. It is time to rethink and reset everything. Organizations need to reset the wrong things to the right ones with diversity and inclusion,” Dave noted.

Technology plays a vital role in embracing both innovation and inclusion.

According to Dave, both employers and employees are adopting technology to upskill and reskill talents through virtual workshops and training. The silver lining is that we have more understanding of individuals on the spectrum and greater flexibility. “Organizations need to be flexible enough to track productivity rather than focusing on other measures,” Dave added.

“To understand the unique needs of people with autism, we all have to be a little creative,” he noted. Every Wednesday at 2:00 PM Eastern Time, Nish chats with thought leaders about how they are contributing to empathy in the workplace, employment for everyone, and innovation.

These 30-minute conversations explore the incredible contributions being made through empathy that are shaping a novel way to work for all. Join us every Wednesday to spread innovative thoughts, compassion, and empathy!
